Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD)
A surface launched guided boring system, HDD is a method used where extensive open cut trenching is impractical due to attendant costs (depth, rock, traffic control, material costs), congestion, or potential destruction to environmentally or archeologically sensitive areas. HDD provides for lower cost, shorter completion times, directional capabilities, reduced traffic disruption, and less environmental impact—up to 90% less than traditional open-cut methods.
Pipe Bursting
Pipe bursting is a system for replacing, in place, existing pipe lines. The host/existing pipe is broken and expanded into the surrounding soil while simultaneously pulling in a new line. Pipe bursting is an ideal method that limits above ground disruption for replacing dilapidated lines that exist in high density areas. Pipe bursting is particularly useful for the sewer and water markets because it allows for upsizing required for many systems that need to accommodate population growth.
Pneumatic Boring
An air assisted non-guided boring system typically used for installing small diameter pipe for short distances. Pneumatic tools reduce costs and minimize above ground disturbance to sidewalks, driveways, and landscaped areas.
Pipe Ramming
Pipe ramming also employs a pneumatic percussion hammer that is attached to the end of the pipe and is most useful for shallow installation of large diameter steel casings to avoid surface settlement and/or heaving. Pipe ramming is often employed to assist in HDD installations.
